Day #1

This morning went great!

I expect to be working with 5 students now. I have sent the participation letters home for the students to review and sign with their parents.  As soon as I receive those back we can begin our project together. I met the principal and feel that I have his support but will also need his signed participation and approval letter back before I can be certain.

I have been recording the audio for the used books I purchased. It does not take too much time, but I wish I could have found the audio sites before purchasing the books and then purchased the books based on the available free audio. Since I do not have curriculum to follow I can select any quality children's literature book that match the students reading levels.

I discovered that itunes has many podcasts for learning concepts from a foreign language to high school math to children's bedtime stories.  It takes utilizing the site to realize how helpful Podcasts can be. I hope to be able to share some of my personal readings with other educators when I complete this project.

My goals for the rest of the evening:

  • Prepare a reading survey to learn more about the students reading interests.
  • Gather and prepare materials to demonstrate proper use and care with the materials.
  • Prepare on model iPod to initially test my program and the process of downloading the audio on iPods.
  • Try and find audio already created to utilize.
  • Pick up the flip camera I will use for documentation.
