Day #10 April 1, 2010

To begin the day off right, we had all three new student participants bring their letters back. This is a great sign of motivted readers! Where there is a will there is a way! I truly believe that these students want to be here and are excited to be reading.

Getting the routine mastered and setting the expectations for these boys was simple. Neither of them took too much time selecting their book or selecting the title on the iPod. The most important thing for me is to monitor and allow them to discover the how to's in operating an iPod. This self dicovery and critical thinking is a very important life skill.

The discussion for group one was a little more difficult because I wanted to record some of it. This was however quite a distraction and wasted most of our time. I will refrain from recording this group for the first few days.

The second group however was quite verbal on their books and the different characters and parts they are particularly interested in. I enjoy hearing them get excited and discuss literature and the enjoyment of how many pages they can read while listening too. It sets a pace that will surely improve their fluency.

My hurdle will be finding a way to get the sessions recorded so that I can share them on the blog with you!
