Day #6 March 25, 2010

With testing taking place this week I have been asked to come in the afternoon today. I was interested to see how the energy levels were for my readers more towards the end of their day... Nothing was different at all. They were just as eager to get in and get started reading.

To give the opportunity to see how things work I had each student come meeting with me one on one. I needed to update their iPods with the new audio books I had read a purchased. This was a great way for me to see how things are going, what the students interests are with the books they have the audio for  and let them learn how this happens. I not only get everything ready, add books and audio to the program weekly, but bring the books back and forth and discover new likes and interests of the students to fulfill their likes and needs in literature.  They were able to see how to sync the device with a computer and select the playlists to add.

Once this program ends, I want to know that the students can accommodate their interest for having music on an iPod. Without the skills of knowing how to download and sync the device they would have trouble getting started. I hope to incorporate some more mini-lessons to familiarize the students with the materials that truly make this program happen, computers!

I am going to try and get the girls and boys to discuss separate one day next week. I have a student who enjoys reading and chit chats with the girls walking to and from the library, however she freezes when we talk as a group. I believe this is something I used to do, be shy, and I want to help this student feel comfortable and able to share equally like her peers.

As with the end of the week and most visits, I leave today with a set of new ideas and ways that I can make the program even better for these young readers!
